Digital Transformation: how the adoption of a PIM system brought greater business efficiency

Application management & System integration

Company description

An Italian company in the electrical engineering sector that operates internationally in the production of home automation, energy and lighting solutions and products for the residential, tertiary and industrial sectors.

The Challenge

The company's needs were multiple:

  • Provide its sales force with a tool capable of conveying and updating all product information and internal communications in real time;
  • Automise the production process of paper catalogues;
  • Create several mobile applications for tablets and smartphones for iOS, Android, Windows/Windows Phone operating systems to make part of the content available to the public via mobile devices;
  • Introduce a content management and publishing system that is fully integrated with the company's existing systems.

The solution

tk.digital integrated the PIM (Product Information Management) solution into the client company's architectural structure to enable the complete and functional management of content publication on mobile platforms and page layout in InDesign.

The PIM was synchronised with all the data already present in the company's existing solution and the following functionalities were implemented:

  • User management through integration with an external service for user activation and registration;
  • Importation of a series of points of sale, which are automatically associated with the relevant catalogues.

We also took care of the development of apps for tablets and smartphones for the three operating systems, apps in which it is possible to display a series of additional contents (e.g. Communications and Personal Messages for users), create downloadable PDFs of product sheets and search for products through barcode reading.

Results

The adoption of a PIM as a single source of truth allowed for greater control and proper management and dissemination of product information on the different channels, which were updated in real time and without errors.

In conjunction with mobile apps, the PIM turned the client company's communication around by streamlining processes, particularly catalogue publishing and user connection. The apps also enabled effective internal communication for the sales force.
