The need for change: BTicino and the management of complex catalogues

Application management & System integration

Company description

The challenge

The customer's needs were multiple and interconnected:

  1. A new website: BTicino had a frontend consisting of 3 catalogues (one Italian, one international in English and one concerning do-it-yourself), various sites dedicated to communication (training courses, product news, etc.) and MyBTicino, a reserved area integrated with the company's CRM providing services for professionals. The aim was to unify these touchpoints in a single modern and user-friendly website.
  2. Renew the product management system: resources were struggling with manual processing of product information and needed an automated system to manage the catalogue and its online publication.

The solution

To meet these needs, a single showcase site was created with the Drupal CMS, which included the 3 catalogues, the communication area and MyBTicino. These were adapted to an aesthetic 'standard' to give the user the feeling of navigating without switching from one site to another, but the most important innovation was the implementation of Elasticsearch, an unstructured database that allows advanced data search thanks to numerous filters.

The management of product information was entrusted to a digital platform capable of aggregating, enriching and managing data of all kinds in order to personalise and consolidate the customer experience. This PIM (Product Information Management) solution is designed for easy integration into existing IT systems and forms the backend of the site.

To the PIM module, an ad-hoc developed module for the automatic publication of online catalogues was added and integrated with Elasticsearch indexing. Thus, on the frontend developed by tell, users access all product information and can search by category, family, sub-family, code, description.

As an integrated platform, the solution finally allows centralisation of solutions such as PIM, MDM, DAM and digital commerce.

Results

tk.digital oversaw the implementation and configuration of the solution applying the expertise of more than 20 years of experience with PIM platforms.

The solution's powerful integrated data management and customer experience management capabilities enabled different business departments such as marketing, sales, operations, supply chain, digital commerce and customer service to 'act in unison' to increase collaborative effectiveness and profitability.

The solution provided to the customer ensured centralised access for all resources, optimising the management of product information and catalogue creation. In addition, the customer was able to improve the catalogue definition process through the ability to modify data in a timely manner.
